Music Intent Statement

At Cheriton Primary School music is important as it enriches our lives, providing a stimulus for reflection, creativity and the development of personal taste and identity. We believe that music sustains and is sustained by culture be that local, national or global. At Cheriton Primary, music will provide for all children, shared experiences where the communication of ideas and emotions is freed from reliance on verbal and written language skills. Music provides the children with a social focus where performers develop self-confidence, self-fulfillment and a sense of community.

All children will learn to play a range of musical instruments and gain a solid understanding of the seven elements of music enabling them to compose their own music as well as performing the music of others.

              Music can change the world because it can change people.
