Cheriton Primary School

Safeguarding

Safeguarding is the core purpose of the school.

Safeguarding is what we do as a school or community to protect individuals (in particular, children and vulnerable adults) from harm such as abuse, neglect, and sexual exploitation. Safeguarding ensures children grow up with the best life chances and that all individuals are given safe and effective care.

Child protection is very similar—however, child protection is what we do as a school or community to protect children who have already experienced abuse, neglect, sexual exploitation, or have otherwise been harmed.

At Cheriton Primary School, when concerns are raised about the welfare or behaviour of a member of our community, we are guided by the phrase, "think the worst but hope for the best"

If you are concerned about the wellbeing of a child, it is important that you talk to someone about this.

If you believe the child is at immediate risk of harm you should call 999.

To report a concern about a child who attends Cheriton Primary School please contact the Designated Safeguarding Lead or the Deputy DSL as detailed below. You can also contact Hampshire Children’s Services

 by telephoning 0300 555 1384.

The Designated Safeguarding Lead at Cheriton Primary School is Mrs Ruth Gent.

The Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead is Mr Andrew Goldsworthy.

The Governor with responsibility for Safeguarding is Mrs Elisabeth Flett.

These people can be contacted by telephoning the school office by telephone (01962 771278) or via email (adminoffice@cheriton.hants.sch.uk).

All members of staff receive full safeguarding training on a yearly basis with regular updates and refresher training and activities through the year. We are chiefly guided by Government's document Keeping Children Safe In Education
The school's Child Protection Policy can be found on our Policies and Key Information page via the link below.
If you are looking for a place for a child starting school in September 2023, we currently have spaces available. Please contact the school office for further details.
