Welcome to Robin Class from Mrs Phillips & Mrs Johnson!

We hope that you have all enjoyed your Summer holiday and are looking forward o the year ahead.

This term the whole school is learning about  The River Itchen.

We will be looking at the animals and plants in the river outside the school as well as the environment around and then visiting the mouth of the river to compare. We will be reading the book A river by Marc Martin. We will be using our imaginations and senses within our creative writing  and after our research at the river we will be writing fact files.

Within Maths we will be developing our skills in number -representing, writing, ordering and using place value which will then help us with our addition and subtraction.

Children need to be able to explain HOW they work things out and explain WHY they have used the different strategies.

Just a few things you will need to know:

Just a reminder please read as much as possible with your child and fill in their reading records either by ticking the middle section or writing a note about their reading (minimum 4 x per week) , please feel free to change your child's book in the classroom, However we will encourage them to change them everyweek. Should your child reach four ticks on the inside of their Reading Log for the week they shall receive a Class Dojo for reading.

Homework and spellings will go out on Fridays. Please return all homework for the following Tuesday and Spellings Tests will be on Friday.

Library visits will be Friday mornings.

The children are allowed 2 books out at a time for a 2 week period.

PE is every other Monday starting 16/9 for the whole afternoon with Nigel, we will also be doing other physical activities when they will not necessarily need pe kits - please make sure children have tracksuits as well as shorts and trainers/plimsolls that FIT (we will be going outside if its dry).

On a Wednesday afternoon we will be going 'Out with Bee'. Please ensure that your child comes suitably dressed for Forest School activities on a Wednesday bringing a spare change of clothes, water bottle and a snack. We strongly recommend that your child has waterproof trousers and wellies.

Some of you have asked about phonics we use a website at the start of the session which I have placed below.

Spellings

9/9

Spellings for all are the days of the week.

We have started the year with Out With Bee with an adventure. We looked at how we can move across a field (lots of fun was had rolling, crawling and bottom shuffling in the mud) and explored how we can represent '2019' through nature and used a variety of skills learned to create.

Spring Term Curriculum Plan

Out With Bee - this week at Out With Bee we were looking at colours in nature. In the build up to Remembrance Sunday we also looked at the graves in our church for those who lost their lives in the World Wars.
