Welcome to everyone to what has been a strange start but its been lovely to have the children back. This term we will be starting the year off with a trip to Marwell zoo. This is linked to our topic Meerkat mail. We will be writing postcards and animal fact files. This will link to our geography which is hot and cold climates. In science we will be looking at habitats as well as animals including humans. This will be linked to PHSE and being healthy. Looking at exercise, a healthy diet and using our senses.

Within Math we will be looking at number, partitioning, addition and subtraction. It would be helpful if you could continue to practise the 2,10,5,3, and 4 times tables with your children.

Just a few things you will need to know:

Just a reminder please read as much as possible with your child and fill in their reading records either by ticking the middle section or writing a note about their reading (minimum 4 x per week) . We will encourage them to change their books every week. Should your child reach four ticks on the inside of their Reading Log for the week they shall receive a Class Dojo for reading. Reading logs need to be handed in on a Friday and I will return them on the Monday. Due to covid we will be unable to write in them when we read with your child which we do every week.

Homework and spellings will go online Fridays. I am in the process of setting up Spelling shed for the children to be able to practise their spellings and maths will be Mymaths. I will send passwords for year 1's this week. Children will get dojos if they do more that 1 mymaths a week and for their spellings.

Library visits will be Friday mornings.

The children are allowed 2 books out at a time for a 2 week period.

PE is on a Friday afternoon. This term we will be looking at balance and dance. We will also be doing other physical activities when they will not necessarily need pe kits - please make sure children have tracksuits as well as shorts and trainers/plimsolls that FIT (we will be going outside if its dry).

On a Tuesday morning(after our trip) year 1's will be going 'Out with Bee'. Please ensure that your child comes suitably dressed for Forest School activities bringing a spare change of clothes, water bottle and a snack. We strongly recommend that your child has waterproof trousers and wellies.

Some of you have asked about phonics we use a website at the start of the session which I have placed below.
