Welcome to Class 2
Welcome to Robin Class from Miss Hind and Miss Warren!
We hope that you have all enjoyed your Summer break and hope that your children are as excited as we are for the year ahead, we have plenty of ideas for fun and challenging learning.
Our first topic is based on animal habitats. The children will be looking at where animals live, focusing on the United Kingdom, the Polar Regions and Africa. Our first book is Meerkat Mail and we will be going to Marwell Zoo to take part in a workshop on animal habitats and explore the variety of animals and habitats on show.
Within Maths we will focusing on Number and Place Value and then Addition and Subtraction. Children need to be able to explain HOW they work things out and explain WHY they have used the different strategies.
Just a few things you will need to know:
Just a reminder please read as much as possible with your child and fill in their reading records (minimum 4 x per week) , please feel free to change your child's book in the classroom. Should your child reach four ticks on the inside of their Reading Log for the week they shall receive a Class Dojo for reading.
Homework and spellings will go out on Fridays. Please return all homework for the following Tuesday and Spellings Tests will be on Thursdays.
Library visits will be Friday mornings.
The children are allowed 2 books out at a time for a 2 week period.
PE is on a Monday and Friday - please make sure children have tracksuits as well as shorts and trainers/ plimsols THAT FIT ( we will be going outside if its dry).
On a Wednesday afternoon we will be going 'Out with Bee'. Please ensure that your child comes suitably dressed for Forest School activities on a Wednesday morning bringing a spare change of clothes, water bottle and a snack.
Some of you have asked about phonics we use a website at the start of the session which I have placed below.
The working up to the Nativity has been going really well so far. Please can you make sure that your child, should they be a narrator, has an opportunity to practice their reading with you at the earliest convenience.
We look forward to seeing as many of you on Thursday evening (6pm) in the village Church.
We have had a wonderful half term, thank you to all the parents/guardians and of course, the amazing Robins!
We have now come to the end of our topic of Food and Farming (this is a theme we are going to look at throughout the year though). Our topic for Autumn 2 is the Great Fire of London! This is going to be really fun but does start with our half term fun-work! Please can all parents support their children in their research and making of a Medieval house out of cardboard.
(Word to parents: we are going to burn them so please don't get too attached! In order for this to important to all though they all really must have one...!)
I can honestly say how proud I am of Robin Class for the Harvest Festival. Every member of our class who took part put their all into what they were doing and were so pleased with what they achieved. Well done!
Have a wonderful half term and I will see you all on Monday 30th October,
Our trip to Milestones
Class 2 enjoyed a day at Milestones Museum. The children were able to explore the Museum looking at the old exhibitions.
Our topic this term is Old and New toys. The children played with some old toys and compared them to the toys they have today. They also had the opportunity to play some old games on the streets within the Museum. We went to the old arcade and the children were able to use the machines. They were very surprised at how different it is to the arcades we use today.
Year 2 enjoyed their first week at Forest School. They spent their time exploring the wood and learning new skills which they will develop over the following 4 weeks!
Class 2 carried out many experiments during Science week and thoroughly enjoyed participating in the activities. We built boats out of junk model and predicted whether we thought they would float or sink. We then raced them on the river to see if our predictions were correct. We also made rockets from plastic bottles and customised them to see if we could make them travel further. Pond dipping was another highlight for the children and we discovered that are lots of creatures living in our river.
Class 2 had a wonderful time at Fort Nelson on Friday 6th January. We learnt lots of facts about our new topic 'Florence Nightingale'.
