Ms Caldwell, Miss Gerrard and Miss Day would like to welcome you to Class 2.

I hope you have all enjoyed your Easter break and you agree we had a fantastic last term and the children did an amazing job in Little Red Riding Hood , both their stories and performance were terrific.

This term we are learning to write poems with rhyming couplets and instructions. We will also be creating our own stories- describing our own settings and characters based upon toys. We will be linking the different areas of learning; reading, history, literacy.

Within Maths we are learning about fractions of number 2/4 1/2, 3/4 and using our knowledge to problem solve. We will also be concentrating again on more problematic multiplication, division and then some fun with measure temperature and capacity along with data handling and graph work.

Could I say a big thank you to those of you reading regularly, if you tick the centre page in your reading log 4 times per week your child will earn a star. Completion of homework will also be awarded with a star.

The year 2's will be taking their SATs during the month of May; hopefully they won't even know when it is happening.

We have also organised for year 2's Forest School to be Wednesday afternoon children can come to school in their Forest School clothes.

Just a reminder please read as much as possible with your child and fill in their reading records (minimum 3x per week) , please feel free to change your child's book.

Library visits will be Mondays.

PE will be Thursday afternoons.

Our trip to Milestones

Class 2 enjoyed a day at Milestones Museum. The children were able to explore the Museum looking at the old exhibitions.

Our topic this term is Old and New toys. The children played with some old toys and compared them to the toys they have today. They also had the opportunity to play some old games on the  streets within the Museum. We went to the old arcade and the children were able to use the machines. They were very surprised at how different it is to the arcades we use today.

Forest School

Year 2 enjoyed their first week at Forest School. They spent their time exploring the wood and learning new skills which they will develop over the following 4 weeks!

Science Week in Class 2

Class 2 carried out many experiments during Science week and thoroughly enjoyed participating in the activities. We built boats out of junk model and predicted whether we thought they would float or sink. We then raced them on the river to see if our predictions were correct. We also made rockets from plastic bottles and customised them to see if we could make them travel further. Pond dipping was another highlight for the children and we discovered that are lots of creatures living in our river.

Class 2 had a wonderful time at Fort Nelson on Friday 6th January. We learnt lots of facts about our new topic 'Florence Nightingale'.

Class 2 had a wonderful day at Marwell Zoo exploring habitats and the different climates animals live in.
